MOTHER NATURE REIGNS!   Leave a comment

It boggles my mind how anyone whether a child or a senior citizen or spanning the years in between can say “I am bored,” let alone write a whole blog about being bored or having nothing to do! Every minute of every day of every year Mother Nature puts on a show that is constantly changing whether it is a calm, sunny, beautiful day or she shows her fury with tornadoes, snowstorms or earthquakes.

There is not a painter, an artist, a photographer, a poet who can capture the colors, lat alone as varied as they are, that she will present every day whether it be a sunrise, sunset, the black of midnight, the various colors of the moon, the yellow and brightness of the sun and let’s not get into the red Cardinals or multicolored Macaws or the blue of blue jays because they can truly blow your mind.

The slideshow are just a few of the pictures I took this month showing how varied her hues are from the Queen Myrtle Crepe trees (#1) to the crows (#s 2 & 3) to the various plants (#s 4,5,6,7) from the brown of a lizard (#8) to the red, oranges and blacks of a sunset (#10) Look at the orange of the cat (#12) and the blacks and whites of the dogs (#11) and how loving she made the puppy to the old dog.

And trees! What she does with trees #s 13 and 14) from the Jacaranda to the palm to the old trees that have melded together to be impenetrable and withstand hurricanes!

I have taken over 5,000 photographs of what Mother Nature has given us and even though I am far, very far, from being the best photographer she makes most of my pictures look great!

Bored? Get outside or just look outside your window and see the many wonders of life.

A couple of days ago I wrote about this plant basically saying  there is my amazing Christmas cactus plant that I have had a few years. It once again is in bloom this year having only missed 2011 BUT it did bloom in time for my Leap Birthday February 29, 2012–that was strange. Now it is even stranger as in the past few days among the pink flowers some white ones have bloomed!

Just when you think you have everything figured out Mother Nature throws a curve ball at you. Last year I cut off a few pieces of the mother plant and potted them around the house. Most have continued to grow giving out green leaves but no flowers—until today!!! I was getting ready to water the plants when I noticed one of the odd potted plants had bloomed a white cactus flower!!

Why only this one boggles my mind but I have come to learn when it comes to her you just have to accept whatever Mother Nature throws your way and to just revel in what she bestows on you.

I know the northen half of the USA is having wild storms and will continue to while we have a high of 81 degress today! I really shouldn’t gloat but she can change things around here in a minute. As it is we have not had a hurricane in 8 years so I really shouldn’t tempt fate by saying “Don’t you wish you were here where you could spend the day on the beach and take a swim in December?” I won’t even think about it though I know when we start freezing here with temperatures in the 40s and 50s, for a night or two, you won’t feel any empathy for us.

In any case I want to publicly thank Mother Nature for a beautiful day and surrounding my apartment with beautiful flowers and I wish you all a happy, warm, present filled Christmas holiday week!

WHERE IS MY SUN & OTHER TOPICS   Leave a comment

5:30 pm and the sun is gone—I WANT MY SUN BACK!!!!

It’s that time of the year–the manatees are coming back for the warm waters os South Florida. At the west end of the canal outside my window are their breeding grounds and it won’t be long before we see mother and calf swimming along–this year I will try to get a picture.

It was a battle and took a lot of time but after getting my Internet bill and seeing the price doubled I called AT&T and after an hour and forty minutes got it reduced $20

I came across this quote the other day and it has stayed with me; “The older you get the more you are drawn to your past.” Though I live in the present and deal with every day as it comes I do agree tat I am drawn to the past either by a memory being triggered by a sight or sound or aroma or comparing what is with what was.

After living here 14 years I found out this past Saturday we have an ice machine on the premises!!!

As I walked around today I was amazed, as I always am, at how lucky I was to have found Gateway and be living here–we have all kinds of plants, trees, bushes not to forget creatures like Iguanas walking along and all I have to do is look over the fence into the canal and see a school of fish. I am going to take a picture of them tomorrow if I can get my camera to do it.

I mentioned (my mistake) to one of the residents that I have to go for one uultrasound on Monday and another on Tuesday which lead to a conversation of PAD (which I have) that could have lasted forever if I didn’t end it quickly.  One thing you learn living with 299 senior citizens is that you have 299 doctors who know what ails you and what can cure you!

Aside from the fact that the sun went down too early today (and will until March 9) I don’t have a thing to complain about. In fact  Thanksgiving week I will be going to see the highest priced ticket show on Broadway that just started their first tour “The Book of Mormon”. The tickets here are so hard to get that ticket agencies are selling them for $400 each!

Mother Nature never fails to amaze me which is why I always carry my camera with me–sorry, folks, no cell phones for me!!!

That’s a full moon on top–not a light bulb!

Even in a parking lot She can make the world shine at sunset.

Having Allen’s car has given me the chance to get over to the park where they keep the police horses–I got so involved with them that I forgot to take pictures of  the beautiful old cars they had near the War Memorial for the weekend show! How many can you count???

And this being Florida there is nothing like seeing an iguana crawling around!

February 29th is special…

It’s the reason that a season comes at the same time every year.

If you’re born on Leap Day… Welcome Home!

This was my Christmas Cactus in 2010 and 2009–always bloomed just in time.

This year nothing–nada–nil–not a bloom!!! I probably should have repotted it into a larger pot and added fresh soil–oh well there is always next year!!!

Not all is lost–here it is December and for some reason my Heliconia has decided to bloom and it looks like 2 of them.

Also my vine outside on the walk after months of nothing came up with a bloom yesterday–looks like it will open tomorrow into a full pink bloom.

I added three twigs to the hibiscus pot but, so far, none have ‘taken’ though the original has a new bud–I never get tired of flowers.

Last, but not least, the twig I stuck in a pot about 6 months ago, is now blooming with yellow flowers every day–it just keeps giving

Every evening around sunset the birds–all kinds–come and roost on the wires until the sun disappears and our wild parrots are back!

I LOVE MOTHER NATURE!!!!   Leave a comment

I love Mother Nature, flowers, plants and surround myself with as many as I can. Here are some of the plants—in bloom–in my apartment:

Both of these plants–one in the east window and the other in the south window were both started from a 2-3″ stem I took off an established plant–between both I constantly have yellow blooms in my apartment–when they reach the ceiling I may have to plant them outside in one of the neighbor’s gardens!

The hibiscus bloom is the second one on this stem–the previous one is the 4th picture from the bottom–I am now thinking of clipping a twig off a yellow hibiscus and putting it in the same pot!
