APRIL 2015 RESUME   1 comment

Aside from breaking records with hitting 96 degrees one day last week we are now in the ‘rainy season’ so you know if you have anything to do outdoors you should get it done by 1 PM.

The main changes you can see are the ones in pictures 2 and 3–the former were the trees in March and the latter are the trees today!

Pictures 4 and 5 are just a couple of the birds around while 16 and 17 are another pigeon nest. The cat is one of the many at Gateway while the dog belongs to Cookie. Pictures 8, 9, 11 and 18 are the seeds I planted in March that I bought at Dollar Tree while the other flower and plants are just a few of those brightening Gateway.

As I usually do every April I switch the dining room table by the window and the couch against the opposite wall, pictures 13 and 14. I tried to put the computer table parallel to the long window wall as I had it before but there are so many wires with the computer, printer, monitor, speakers, phone that it became a hassle and a half so I left it as is but I do know I will have to move the sofa bed against the ‘A Chorus Line” wall by February so it can be opened up but that’s 10 months away!

Saw the touring companies of “Pippin” and “Sister Act’ in April and 6 new movies of which one is definitely going on top of my worst movies of 2015 “While We’re Young”. Ate in 3 new restaurants of which one, Marti’s, was a big disappointment, Taco Grill just okay and Foxy Brown was a winner.

Though it is still 10 months away I m starting to get things worked out for my Leap Year birthday on Monday, February 29, 2016. I booked a room at Café Vico’s for a dinner that evening, reserved our community room for the night before when the 2015 Oscar show will be on and will have to look into renting the biggest TV I can find for that night plus see about some catering. More planning to do in May!

JUNE 16, 2013—HAVING A CAR   Leave a comment

1 & 2)  I’ve spoken previously about Broward County (home to Fort Lauderdale) using appropriate covers for the ugly electrical and water ‘boxes’ that most cities have all over town. The first is one near the riverfront center and the second is right outside the downtown garage showing the streets and avenues of downtown and the various sights to see. They certainly make most of making the city attractive  and colorful!

3) The Gateway Community are known for  the many Queen Crepe Myrtle trees that bloom in May, June and July adding colorful purple blooms all over the place. Now if they only had an aroma!

4 & 5) Though Fort Lauderdale is a fairly new city having been established in 1911 but the area was inhabited by Indians for many years previously and all over there are verify old trees in some of the strangest places. These two are in a parking lot of a medical building!

6) People make fun of all the seeds I bought in March at the Dollar Tree store. Out on the walkway I have about 5 pots with marigolds, miniature sunflowers not to forget the beet and turnip plants I am still waiting to produce. In any case I have a pot on the ledge in my shower window and every once in awhile a marigold shows up like this one. Adds a smile to the day.

And now I am off to take a drive over to the park to hear one of their summer concerts!

SUNDAY IN FORT LAUDERDALE–PART 13   Leave a comment

This Sunday series is to show not only my love for Mother Nature and Florida but also the Gateway apartments in Fort Lauderdale  where I live with 232 trees on 8 acres with 32 buildings containing 265 apartments and about 300 residents overlooking Karen Bay. We have over 1500 feet of seawall with 8 docks where yachts from all over the world stop for a period of time.

Saying Mother Nature, trees and Fort Lauderdale means palm trees and here are a couple right outside my building!

In October, 2005, Hurricane Wilma hit us and though we got hit, not having electricity for about 10 days, all in all the Gateway administration did a great job supplying us with water and food. The one thing that hit me was the tree in back of my apartment that was shirred and shredded so badly that I thought it would never come back and yet here it is in all its glory in 2008 but hiding the canal on the other side–a small price to pay!

MOTHER NATURE GIVES ME A HAND!   Leave a comment

We have an Avocado tree in the back of my building which yielded about 75 avocados this past season. I took 2 of them and planted the pits in May and now am only 7-8 years before I have 2 avocado trees loaded with them. Just think of all the guacamole we can make and have with chips!

MOVIES AND OTHER TOPICS–CATCHING UP   Leave a comment

Have you been to picmonkey.com? Wild!!!

Is it saying something that of the over 20 movies I have seen in 2012 so far that the 3 best have been foreign films? And that they didn’t contain violence, the ‘f’ words or bodies writhing nude in bed? And what are the biggest movies in the USA so far this year? “The Hunger Games”,  “The Avengers” and “Safe House” which are filled with violence if not sex and and cursing. Mmmmmm–wonder why teenagers use so many curse words in their every day language ?!?

The first sign of Spring—a bloom on the Queen Crepe Myrtle Tree on the left–by next month all 50 trees will look like the one of the right, which I took a picture of last June.
